Garden Projects

This adorable wreath adorns the front of my garden shed.
Although this particular wreath was a gift to me,
I think it would be amazingly easy to construct.

An old garden hose, some silk flowers and a bow....
and voila....
adorable!

Secondly, I have seen this next project in magazines lately,
and on other blogs.
It's a simple, inexpensive project.

Simply.....hammer an old silver plated spoon until it is flat.
(a mallet works best)

Stamp the letters with metal stamps
and use permanent ink to stain the letters.

I was working on an old tree stump...

Until Edith came over and started to steal my spoons.

These are now in my herb garden.....

If you are interested in making these, you will need a set of metal letter stamps
which you can find on Ebay for $10 a set.
Spoons are easy to come by and cheap at your local thrift store / flea market.

I'm so glad you showed the stamped garden markers. It's the first time I've seen them. I love the curly tines on the forks. Now I'll have to look for those metal alphabet stamps. I can see a set of these for every gardener on the Christmas gift list. Thanks

HI Beverly,

I love your herb markers. I tried to make some awhile ago, but had trouble getting the metal stamps to stamp into the silver. We were using silverplate. Do you think we need sterling?

Thanks, Cindy

Cindy, I think the key is to use something very solid as your base to hammer on. I am using an anvil and that works well. I use silverplate and hit the stamp 4 or 5 times with a mallet....a heavy one!

I was just going to send you a source for silver plated spoons but, as usual, you're way ahead of me and they're adorable...I, too, just saw them in a magazine...Flea markets are definitely your best bet...

I'm not quite sure how I found you . . . I was googling "sew-on metal letters", and this post was on my list! So while I was here I've rummaged around both of your blogs, and have had a lot of fun doing so. I'll be back to visit! I really like these herb spoons - just the idea I needed. Thanks!

These silver spoon herb markers are so cute. I had seen some on etsy and wondered how they made them.
