Once again I have found the time to join Beverly at "How Sweet the Sound" for another
Pink Saturday.
The month of December brings special themed Pink Saturdays....this week's theme being a favorite childhood holiday memory.
Some of my earliest Christmas memories are of my two grandmothers and the holiday decorations in their homes. Each Christmas when I was very young, my Mother's mother would create a village around the base of her Christmas tree. There she would place special houses, animals, and porcelain figurines.
I remember a set of roosters in her scene just like these....
To me, this was a magical miniature world. Miniature houses hung on her tree..
along with beautiful balls and lights and "bubbling candles" (remember those?)
The focal point of the scene was a hand carved Victorian house (made for my Mother when she was very young) with lace curtains hanging in its windows. This old house is, today, one of my most treasured possessions. My father's mother lived alone in an apartment and her Christmases were always spent at our house. She would spend a couple of days with us....playing games with me for hours on end. Her visits made Christmas seem even more festive. We usually had New Year's dinner at her apartment, and I can remember the special holiday candles that she would have sitting on all of her tables.
Today, when I find one of these Gurley candles in an antique shop,
I am flooded with wonderful memories of my Grandma.
Please enjoy all of the Pink Saturday Bloggers at How Sweet the Sound!
May your holidays be filled with luscious dreams of pinkness!!!

Happy Pink Saturday, Beverly. I've missed you, and I am so glad you joined us today.
I loved reading of your memories of your grandmothers. The village must have seemed magical, and your mother's Victorian house is gorgeous.
Hi I loved reading your memories of Christmases past and will follow you because I want to keep on and keep on reading. Your house is gorgeous too. Thanks for sharing, Mollye. And yep I do remember the bubble lights. They still make them but don't quite look the same to me. I don't think they were as "plastic" back then were they? Peace
Oh! Your Christmas memories are wonderful. I've been looking at all of your Christmas decorations in your beautiful home! Oh my! I could move right in. Your house is fantastic! Pardon the gushing...I just love your home!
